Dormy Inn With Kids: ¥3,000 Co-Sleeping and One Child per Bed
Dormy Inn with kids: under-3s co-sleep free, ages 3 through elementary school pay ¥3,000, one child per bed, no cots. Otaru FAQ, Oct 2026.
Dormy Inn with kids works if you plan around its bed rules. At Dormy Inn Premium Otaru, the official FAQ (checked October 2026) says children aged 0 to 2 co-sleep free, children aged 3 through elementary school cost ¥3,000 a night, and junior-high students and older pay the adult rate. Only one co-sleeping child is allowed per bed, and the hotel has no baby cots and no extra beds. The answer changes if you are one adult with two children: the second child needs a separate bed or futon at the adult rate, so ask about the room type before you book.
The co-sleeping rules, line by line
Dormy Inn publishes one child-pricing scheme that its FAQ calls common to all its facilities, and the table below translates it from the Japanese original. I read it on the Otaru page, which carries the same text as the chain FAQ, and I checked it in October 2026.
| Child's age | Co-sleeping | Charge | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 to 2 years | 1 child per bed | Free | If the child needs a separate futon or bed, the adult rate applies |
| 3 years to elementary school | 1 child per bed | ¥3,000 per child per night | If the child needs a separate futon or bed, the adult rate applies |
| Junior high and older | Not offered as co-sleeping | Same as one adult | The FAQ says these guests are not accepted on the co-sleeping fee |
| Any age at "global cabin" properties | Not available | n/a | The FAQ states co-sleeping is not possible at global cabin |
Dormy Inn Premium Otaru's official FAQ (checked October 2026) sets three age bands: 0 to 2 free, 3 to the end of elementary school at ¥3,000 a night, and junior-high and up at the adult rate. It also allows one co-sleeping child per bed.
Two more lines from the same FAQ matter for planning. A room booked for two adults can host up to two children, but the hotel adds that some room types cannot be offered this way. The hotel states that children's mixed bathing is limited to age 6 and under as a rule.
The booking box on the Otaru home page also warns that some Dormy Inn properties charge a facility-use fee for children, and that some do not accept children at all, so I would not assume the Otaru numbers hold for every branch. Check the property page of whichever Dormy Inn you pick. You can read the source yourself on the official Otaru FAQ.
What made it work for my son and me in Otaru
I stayed at Dormy Inn Premium Otaru with my son, just the two of us. This was before the hotel's 2026 renovation, so what I describe about the baths is the old setup.
Three things stuck with me. The first was the large hot spring bath. The free late-night ramen, called yonaki soba, was the second, and we went down for it. The third was breakfast, where the buffet had ikura on offer, and I was glad it was there.
That is the whole of my experience here. I have no notes on room size or on laundry, and the official pages do not clearly confirm coin laundry. The bath page shows a "laundry corner" photo label in each changing area, with nothing on machines or prices, so ask the hotel if laundry matters to you.
Baths, late-night ramen and breakfast in Otaru today
Dormy Inn Premium Otaru is about 1 minute on foot from JR Otaru Station, and its main attractions for families are on the official pages in the lists below. Everything here is what the hotel's pages say now, checked October 2026, and it is specific to Otaru rather than the whole chain.
Bath
- The natural hot spring bath is on the 2nd floor and is separate for men and women. It opens 15:00 to 10:00 the next morning.
- The sauna pauses from 1:00 to 5:00 at night. It has an auto-loyly function and a cold plunge.
- Tattoos are refused at this hotel, the page says.
- The hotel reopened on August 1 after closing for renovation from April 1, 2026. The announcement lists renovated baths with an auto-loyly sauna, new air conditioning in all rooms and a bigger 2nd-floor lounge with massage chairs.
Yonaki soba
- Free soy-sauce ramen is served daily from 21:30 to 23:00 in the 2nd-floor restaurant. The page was still listing it after the reopening.
- The official pages I read do not state whether the service or its hours are the same at other Dormy Inn branches, so treat 21:30 to 23:00 as an Otaru fact.
Breakfast
- Buffet hours are 6:30 to 9:30, with last entry at 9:00. The page says hours can be extended by season.
- Prices are ¥3,000 for adults, ¥1,500 for ages 3 through elementary school, and free for ages 2 and under, tax included.
- The page advertises a seafood bowl and grilled seafood with ikura, and adds that ingredients vary by season. Breakfast is for hotel guests only.
- Free baby chairs are available in the restaurant, in limited numbers.

Cancellation and check-in times
Dormy Inn's standard check-in is 15:00 and check-out is 11:00, but the FAQ says the hotel's or the plan's own times take priority. The Otaru floor page repeats 15:00 and 11:00 with the same plan-dependent caveat. Late check-out costs ¥1,000 per person per hour, up to a maximum of 13:00.
For standard terms with 1 to 5 guests, the cancellation charge is 100% of the basic room rate for a no-show without contact, 100% on the day, and 50% the day before. The FAQ adds that a hotel's own plan terms generally take precedence, so the policy on your booking screen is the one that counts. The same table appears in the hotel's terms of accommodation.
When Dormy Inn is the wrong pick for a family
Dormy Inn is the wrong pick when your family needs a bed count the rules do not allow. The single-bed rule is the usual trap. A family of one adult and two children, or a baby who cannot sleep in a bed with a parent, runs straight into the "one child per bed, no cots, no extra beds" combination.
| Family shape | Works at Dormy Inn? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 2 adults + 1 child aged 0 to 2 | Yes, rule-wise | Co-sleeping is free, one child per bed; the FAQ says a room booked for two adults can host up to two children, though some room types cannot be offered this way |
| 2 adults + 1 child aged 3 to elementary school | Yes, rule-wise | ¥3,000 per child per night; same one-child-per-bed rule |
| 2 adults + 1 teenager | Yes, at adult price | Junior high and older pay the adult rate, not a co-sleeping fee |
| 1 adult + 2 children | Ask first | Only one child may co-sleep per bed, and there are no extra beds, so the second child needs a bed or futon at the adult rate |
| Baby who needs a cot | No cot | The hotel has no baby cots; some facilities have bed guards, so ask the property directly |
The rooms add to that. Because only one child may co-sleep per bed, two adults with two co-sleeping children need a room with two beds, and the FAQ caps a room booked for two adults at two children while warning that some room types cannot take them. In Otaru, the rooms page lists the doubles (14.3 to 15.0 m²) for 2 guests and the 32.0 m² Japanese-Western room for 3. For a family of four, ask the hotel which room type it can offer before treating Dormy Inn as an option.
The official pages do not answer every combination of ages and room types. If your child sits near an age-band boundary, or your room type is unclear, ask the hotel directly before booking: the age limit, how many children can share one bed, and whether a fee or a futon is added. For the general picture across hotels, our guide to sharing a bed with your child in Japan explains how to ask. Other chains in this series are covered in Tokyu Hotels with kids, Daiwa Roynet family rooms and JR Inn in Hokkaido. For the wider choice of chains, see our guide to hotel chains in Japan.
