JR Inn Hokkaido: 10:00 Check-Out and Baths at Five of Six

JR Inn Hokkaido rules: check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00 at all six, preschoolers co-sleep free, large baths at five of six (checked Oct 2026).

JR Inn Hokkaido runs six hotels, and all six share the same two clocks: check-in at 15:00 and check-out at 10:00 (official pages, checked October 2026). Preschool children sleep free with an adult, one child per adult, while the large bath, the breakfast and the price of that breakfast change from hotel to hotel. For a late landing at New Chitose and a morning flight, JR Inn Chitose is the one I have used. If you want a big bath in Sapporo, skip JR Inn Sapporo itself and pick the South Exit or N2 branch.

The six JR Inns and what each has

JR Inn has six hotels in Hokkaido: Chitose, three in Sapporo, Asahikawa and Hakodate, and five of the six have a large public bath. Of the six hotels (official sites checked October 2026), every one except JR Inn Sapporo has a gender-separated large bath, none of the official pages mentions a sauna, and all six check in at 15:00 and out at 10:00.

The Hakodate breakfast price was raised on 1 September 2026 (hotel notice), so an older page or listing may still show a lower figure. Bath hours run past midnight in the official wording ("15:00 to 25:00", which means 1:00 a.m.), and at Chitose the bath is for hotel guests only. A late landing at New Chitose with my daughter

JR Inn Chitose is the practical choice when your flight lands late and you leave early the next morning. In March 2023 I landed at New Chitose Airport late at night with my daughter, slept one night at JR Inn Chitose, and the next morning we took the train back to the airport for our flight. The hotel faces JR Chitose Station, and the Rapid Airport train takes about 10 minutes (official FAQ, checked October 2026).

The hotel's FAQ gives the route: take the Rapid Airport train from New Chitose Airport (about 10 minutes), get off at JR Chitose Station, and the hotel is about 30 seconds on foot. Our other guides cover the airport side: where to stay on a first night near New Chitose and airport hotels for early flights.

Two rules matter for a late arrival. First, the hotel asks that you check in by 24:00 in principle and contact it beforehand if you will be later. Second, the entrance is locked after 0:00 for security, and guests open it with the card key. The large bath on the 2F runs 15:00 to 25:00 and again from 5:00 to 10:00, so even a 23:30 check-in can still catch the bath before it closes, and an early riser has it back before check-out. Breakfast is a set meal at the connected Yayoi-ken restaurant, 6:00 to 10:00 with last entry at 9:30, for ¥1,000 (official page, checked October 2026). The large twin room takes up to four guests, with the third and fourth beds as an extra bed or a sofa bed. For arriving after dark in general, see late-night hotel check-in in Japan.

JR Inn Sapporo: close to the station, no big bath

JR Inn Sapporo is the only JR Inn in Hokkaido without a large bath. The official page puts it 4 minutes on foot from the west gate of JR Sapporo Station. When I stayed in April 2024, I liked how close it was to the station, and with a Yayoi-ken set-meal restaurant nearby, meals were easy.

The hotel offers a free light breakfast in the 1F lounge from 6:30 to 9:30: bread, salad, yogurt, coffee and milk. That is a different deal from the Sapporo South branch, where breakfast is a ¥1,000 set meal. The official page lists no parking, including partner lots. If a soak matters more than the walk, book JR Inn Sapporo South or JR Inn Sapporo N2 instead. Of the three Sapporo branches, I have stayed only at JR Inn Sapporo, so I cannot tell you what the other two feel like. Their details here come from the official pages.

One change affects South in particular: bookings made from 1 October 2026 are prepayment-only, and stays from 1 December 2026 are fully cashless, with no cash accepted on site. If you plan to pay at the desk, choose another branch.

JR Inn Asahikawa: inside the station mall, but eat in town

JR Inn Asahikawa sits inside AEON Mall Asahikawa Ekimae, next to JR Asahikawa Station. The official route is out through the station's west ticket gate, out of the north exit, and into the mall by its station-square entrance, so there is a short stretch outdoors (official access page, checked October 2026). That matched my stay: it is effectively connected to the station, with only a few steps outside.

Having the mall in the same building is the practical part: souvenirs and a quick, simple meal are right there, which helps on the morning you leave. In my case, though, I never ate at the mall: Asahikawa had too many things I wanted to eat from morning to night. The hotel's 5F large bath with a semi-open-air section runs 15:00 to 25:00 and 5:00 to 10:00, and the breakfast buffet is ¥1,800, free for children below elementary school age (official page, checked October 2026).

Kids, check-out and cancellation

At JR Inn, a preschool child sleeps free in the same bed as an adult, one child per adult. The Chitose FAQ reads, in my translation, that one preschool child per adult may share the bed, that a child who uses a bed alone is charged the adult rate, and that elementary school children and older are charged the adult rate. The Sapporo FAQ carries the same three sentences. The Asahikawa, Hakodate, Sapporo South and Sapporo N2 FAQs state the preschool and bed-alone rules; I read the elementary-school sentence only on the Chitose and Sapporo pages, so for the other four, ask the hotel which age counts as the adult-rate line.

The pages I read publish no age limit for babies and no fee schedule beyond these sentences, so I will not guess. Before booking, email or call the hotel and ask three things: the age limit for free co-sleeping, how many children may share one bed, and whether a fee or an extra futon applies. Our guide to sharing a bed with your child explains how to ask.

Check-out at 10:00 is early. At Chitose, an extension is possible by advance request for ¥1,000 per room per hour, up to 12:00 at the latest. Early check-in from 12:00 costs ¥1,000 per hour when arranged in advance and subject to availability, and Asahikawa starts from 13:00 (official FAQ, checked October 2026).

Cancellation is set by the accommodation terms, revised on 1 April 2026. The table's column headings are no-show, same day, the day before, 3 days before and 7 days before, and the row for general bookings (up to nine rooms) prints 100%, 80%, 50%, 20% and a dash, as percentages of the base room rate. We could not confirm from the page layout how each printed value lines up with each heading, so read the table on the official terms page before relying on a deadline, and check your own booking's terms if you booked through another site.

Which JR Inn to book

Pick the JR Inn by the one thing your trip hinges on: a late flight, a bath, the walk from the station or the payment method. The table below is built from the official pages (checked October 2026).

FAQ: JR Inn Hokkaido

What time is check-out at JR Inn?

Check-out is at 10:00 at all six JR Inn hotels in Hokkaido, and check-in starts at 15:00 (official pages, checked October 2026). A paid extension is possible at Chitose by advance request for ¥1,000 per room per hour, up to 12:00.

Does JR Inn Chitose have a large bath?

Yes. JR Inn Chitose has a gender-separated large bath on the 2F, open 15:00 to 25:00 and again 5:00 to 10:00, for hotel guests only. Of the six JR Inn hotels, only JR Inn Sapporo has no large bath (official pages, checked October 2026).

Do children stay free at JR Inn?

One preschool child per adult can share the adult's bed free of charge, according to the official FAQs. A child who uses a bed alone pays the adult rate, and the Chitose and Sapporo FAQs say the same for elementary school children and older. For anything else, such as an exact age limit, ask the hotel before booking.

How far is JR Inn Chitose from New Chitose Airport?

About 10 minutes by Rapid Airport train to JR Chitose Station, then roughly 30 seconds on foot, according to the hotel's FAQ. Check-in is expected by 24:00, and the entrance is locked from 0:00, with the card key opening it.
