Is there a direct service?

Yes. Big Runs operates a dedicated coach between New Chitose Airport's domestic terminal and Rusutsu Resort Hotel & Convention, with no change of vehicle. In the 2025-26 winter season it ran from 29 November 2025 to 31 March 2026, with eight airport departures a day between roughly 10:15am and 7:00pm timed around domestic flight arrivals. Rusutsu Resort had not published its own Big Runs dates for 2026-27 at the time of writing, but the alternative is already fixed: Hokkaido Access Network's New Chitose⇔Rusutsu/Niseko ski bus runs daily from 1 December 2026 to 30 March 2027 outbound and 2 December to 31 March inbound, at ¥5,500 for an adult and ¥4,500 for a child one way, reservation required (Hokkaido Access Network's own 2026-27 timetable, checked August 2026). This bus is not the same service as the free Rusutsu-Go shuttle — that one runs only between Sapporo and Rusutsu, not from the airport, and is covered below as the budget alternative. New Chitose to Rusutsu compared

Of the five ways to reach Rusutsu compared above, four run directly from the airport — the Big Runs and Hokkaido Resort Liner buses, private taxi/transfer, and self-drive; only the free Rusutsu-Go route requires a stop in Sapporo first, which is what makes it slower door-to-door despite costing nothing (checked August 2026).

How the Big Runs bus is actually booked

The Big Runs bus is booked as its own reservation, separate from your room. Online reservation closes at 24:00, seven days before your travel date, at the discounted online fare; after that cut-off you can only try the counter rate on the day, subject to seats being available, which is not guaranteed in the New Year and February peak weeks. A second direct operator also runs the airport-to-Rusutsu route: Hokkaido Access Network Co., Ltd. operates a Hokkaido Resort Liner ski bus between New Chitose Airport and Rusutsu (the same brand also serves Niseko on a separate route). In the 2025-26 season it ran from 1 December 2025 to 30 March 2026, with a one-way adult fare of ¥4,500 and a journey of roughly 2.5 hours — slower than Big Runs but at a lower fare — with online booking closing about 9 days before departure. As with Big Runs, Hokkaido Access Network had not published 2026-27 dates or fares as of this check (checked August 2026); confirm current terms on access-n.jp before booking.

If you want a free option and don't mind more legs and a stop in Sapporo, Rusutsu Resort also runs Rusutsu-Go, a free shuttle between JR Sapporo Station and the resort, open to both hotel guests and day visitors, verified as of August 2026. It picks up two minutes' walk from Sapporo Station's South Exit and takes about 120 minutes to Rusutsu. Reservations for Rusutsu-Go must be made by 15:00 the day before travel. Combined with the roughly 37-minute JR Rapid Airport train from New Chitose to Sapporo Station (about ¥1,150 one way), this route is slower door-to-door than either direct bus but keeps the transfer cost to the JR fare alone — worth considering if you are already routing through Sapporo for a night, per our note on landing late below.

Chartered taxi and private-transfer operators serving this route publish fares in the region of ¥24,000-25,000 one way for a standard sedan (up to 3-4 passengers with normal luggage) and roughly ¥35,000 for a jumbo taxi or van sized for a group with ski bags, for a journey of about 90 minutes in clear conditions — faster than the Big Runs coach's roughly 120 minutes because a private vehicle skips the terminal pickup loop and any resort-side stops the scheduled coach makes. Confirm the current quote directly with the operator, as fares are set per company and vary by season. A private vehicle is the only option that leaves on your own schedule rather than a fixed departure, which matters most for late or delayed flights. Driving from the airport

New Chitose Airport to Rusutsu Resort is roughly 87 km by road, a drive Rusutsu's own access page states as about 90 minutes; treat that as the fair-weather figure. Snowfall, wind advisories on the expressway sections, and the mountain road into the resort itself can extend it well past two hours, and parking at the resort is available but you should confirm current rates and whether it is included with your room.
