Two short connecting lines opened in 2023 — the Sotetsu Shin-Yokohama Line and the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line — form a rail bridge between the Sotetsu network and the Tokyu lines running into central Tokyo.

• Sotetsu side: Nishiya → Hazawa Yokohama-Kokudai → Shin-Yokohama. At Nishiya, through trains continue south on the Sotetsu Main Line toward Seya, Mitsukyo, and Ebina.
• Tokyu side: The Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line connects Shin-Yokohama north to Hiyoshi, where trains split onto the Tokyu Toyoko Line (Shibuya) or the Tokyu Meguro Line (Meguro).

From a Tokyo base, the routing is:

1. Take a Tokyu Toyoko or Meguro Line through-service train toward Shin-Yokohama (look for the through-service marking on timetables and apps).
2. Stay on through Shin-Yokohama — the train continues onto the Sotetsu network.
3. Ride south from Nishiya: Tsurugamine → Futamatagawa → Kibogaoka → Mitsukyo → Seya.

Which Tokyo Neighborhoods Make Practical Bases

Shibuya

Shibuya sits directly on the Tokyu Toyoko Line through-service — Shin-Yokohama is 25 minutes away. It also connects to the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line, making Minami-machida Grandberry Park (another confirmed shuttle station) a direct option. A full expo day from a Tokyo base means roughly 2+ hours in transit (55–65 min each way by train, plus shuttle). From Shin-Yokohama the train leg is 35–40 minutes each way. The math tips toward Tokyo if you plan several nights in the capital with one or two expo days — you skip repositioning luggage mid-trip.
