Christmas dinner Tokyo reservations open earlier than most visitors expect: most hotel dining rooms take bookings between late September and late October, and by early November the December 24 and 25 seatings at well-known kitchens are largely gone. If you want one dependable base to build the evening around, Conrad Tokyo in Shiodome keeps several restaurants under one roof and was confirmed open and operating at our September 2026 check — reserve there, or nearby, before the second week of November. That answer changes only if you're chasing one specific room, like New York Grill or a ticketed dinner show, since those run on their own calendar and sometimes open even earlier.
The three deadlines that actually matter
Three separate deadlines drive whether you eat where you want on December 24 or 25, and they rarely line up. The first is the hotel restaurant's own reservation-opening date, which can be a members-only preview weeks before the general public gets in. The second is the cutoff for pre-ordering a Christmas cake or take-out set, which closes earlier than dinner because kitchens need lead time to bake and box. The third is simply whether a room is still available on the same two nights — a separate booking from the dinner, and often the first of the three to sell out.
Treat these as three checklist items, not one. Missing the first means missing the best tables; missing the second means no cake; missing the third means a good dinner with nowhere central to sleep afterward. Hotel dining opens earliest
Three Tokyo flagships run three different booking rhythms, and none of them is "call in December."
At the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, Imperial Club and Imperial Club Grace members got first access to the 2025 Christmas program in late September, ahead of general booking. At our check (September 2026), the equivalent 2026 date had not yet been posted on the hotel's official Christmas page — the page for the coming season typically goes live with dates in the weeks that follow, so it's worth watching rather than assuming the same date repeats.
New Otani Tokyo splits its Christmas dining into two different products this year. Its ticketed Dinner & Concert series — Hikawa Kiyoshi on December 22, Ito Ran on December 23, and Sada Masashi on December 24–25, 2026 — already has a live, tiered booking calendar at our check: Diners Premium cardholders from August 31 at 10:00, general New Otani Club members from September 2 at 10:00, and the general public from September 16 at 10:00. Its everyday restaurant Christmas menus run on a slower clock — the hotel's main Christmas page was still showing 2025 information at our check, with 2026 details promised "from around September."
Park Hyatt Tokyo's New York Grill doesn't run a separate holiday launch at all. On TableCheck at our check, the restaurant's standard menu could be booked on any date from January 1 through December 22 and again from December 26 through December 30, 2026 — but not December 24 or 25. Those two dates aren't blocked out by mistake; they're held for a separate holiday menu Park Hyatt hasn't opened for booking yet, so there's no fixed date to watch — just check back periodically.
The KFC question, answered with a date
KFC Japan's Christmas reservation window is nationwide and short, and Tokyo customers follow the same national calendar as everyone else. In 2025, reservations opened November 4 (Tuesday); the "Xmas early" discount on the Party Barrel ran through December 12; and pickup was available December 19–25. In 2024, the window opened three days earlier, on November 1 (Friday) — the exact day moves year to year, but early November has been the pattern for at least two seasons running.
At our check in September 2026, KFC Japan had not yet announced the 2026 opening date. Based on the 2024 and 2025 pattern, expect it in the first week of November — KFC Japan's official release page is the place to watch, not a general search.
Cakes, and why they close earlier than dinner
Hotel Christmas cakes and take-out sets close for orders well before the dining rooms do, because they need lead time to bake, decorate, and box. New Otani Tokyo's 2025 cake and take-out program required standard items to be ordered at least three days before pickup, and tower cakes or party sets to be ordered at least five days before pickup, by 17:00. If the 2026 program keeps the same lead times — not guaranteed, but consistent with how the hotel has run this in past seasons — ordering a cake for pickup on December 24 would mean finalizing the order by roughly December 19–21 depending on the item. Check the 2026 cake page once New Otani publishes it, and don't assume the dinner deadline and the cake deadline are the same one.
What we could actually confirm, in one line
Of the five Tokyo dining programs checked for this guide — Imperial Hotel's members' preview, New Otani's ticketed Dinner & Concert series, New Otani's everyday restaurant menus, Park Hyatt Tokyo's New York Grill, and KFC's nationwide reservation system — only one, New Otani's Dinner & Concert series, had a live 2026 booking calendar. The other four were still running 2025 information or hadn't opened the relevant window yet (checked September 2026). That split is itself the useful fact: a program having no visible 2026 date yet doesn't mean it's closed, only that it hasn't opened.
If the dinner is booked, book the room the same day
A confirmed dinner reservation for December 24 or 25 does not guarantee a room on the same night, and treating the two as one decision saves a second search later. Both dates fall on weeknights this year — Thursday, December 24, and Friday, December 25, 2026 — which doesn't make either date easier to book, since most travelers are working from the calendar date rather than the day of the week. Room availability across central Tokyo tightens through the run-up to Christmas the same way restaurant tables do, just on a less publicized schedule.

There's no single citywide date — each hotel runs its own calendar. Imperial Hotel Tokyo gave its members first access in late September 2025; New Otani Tokyo opened its 2026 ticketed Dinner & Concert series in stages between August 31 and September 16, 2026. General restaurant menus at most hotels tend to follow in October, so check the specific hotel's own page rather than assuming one date applies everywhere.
Is December 24 or December 25 harder to book?
