Izumo makes most sense as a base if the shrine is the centerpiece of your trip. Izumo Oyashiro (Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine) is dedicated to Okuninushi-no-Okami, the deity associated with en — the bonds between people. Shrine grounds open approximately 6:00–19:00; inner halls, amulets, and goshuin available 8:30–16:30. Arriving before 8:00 means the cedar-lined approach and the Kaguraden hall in near-silence.
