If Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is central to the trip, treat it as a northern Okinawa plan. From Naha, the aquarium area in Motobu is roughly a 2-hour drive each way in normal conditions, and longer when traffic or weather turns. That is fine as a single day trip, but it is tiring with children or after a beach morning. Motobu, Sesoko and Nago hotels reduce the driving and let you pair the aquarium with Emerald Beach, Bise or Nakijin.

For July to September, check typhoon-season cancellation rules before choosing a prepaid rate. For beach hotels, read the wording closely: direct beach access, private beach, beach across the road and sea-view room are different things. Without a car, it still works if you choose one resort, use the airport limousine bus and avoid planning a different excursion every day.

North-coast hotels become useful when you want less city time and more resort or beach time. Onna is the balanced resort strip; Motobu and Sesoko are better for Churaumi Aquarium and quieter northern drives. The practical question is how many times you want to drive back toward Naha. Do I need a car in Okinawa?
You do not need one for a Naha city stay. You probably want one for Onna, Yomitan, Nago, Motobu and flexible beach days. Airport limousine buses help, but they do not replace a car for multi-stop sightseeing.

Where should I stay without a car?
Stay in Naha near Asahibashi, Kencho-mae, Miebashi, Makishi or Tsubogawa. Those stations keep the airport, Kokusai Dori, the bus terminal and city restaurants easier than a resort without wheels.
