Furano splits into two ski zones joined by a public bus, plus a town in between — so where to stay in Furano comes down to which of those three you want out your window. Pick [Shin Furano Prince Hotel](https://www.trip.com/hotels/furano-hotel-detail-704148/new-furano-prince-hotel/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=where-to-stay-in-furano&trip%5Fsub3=D19553557&ref=nipponstays.com) if you want to walk out in your boots and ride straight up the Furano Ropeway with nothing else nearby. Pick a Kitanomine lodge like [Nozo Hotel](https://www.trip.com/hotels/furano-hotel-detail-110029424/nozo-hotel/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=where-to-stay-in-furano&trip%5Fsub3=D19740737&ref=nipponstays.com) — a 2-min walk to the Kitanomine Gondola — for the middle ground between slope access and somewhere to eat that isn't the hotel restaurant. Pick the town centre, a short bus ride from both zones, if you want a real choice of restaurants and a supermarket after skiing. Furano has skied on the Ikon Pass since the 2025-26 season (7 days on the full Ikon Pass, 5 on Ikon Base, no blackout dates confirmed for 2026-27), so all three bases work for pass holders.

## Furano has two ski zones and one town — that is the whole decision

Furano Ski Resort runs two separate base areas about a 7-minute bus ride apart at the bottom (per the winter timetable's Prince Hotel–to–Kitanomine leg), linked at altitude by a connecting chair and run for skiers already on snow, and linked at the bottom by a public bus. The Furano Zone, on the south side, is where the Furano Ropeway climbs from a single large hotel's front door. The Kitanomine Zone, on the north side, is a cluster of small lodges and pensions around its own gondola. JR Furano Station and the town's restaurants sit roughly between the two, a short bus ride from either lift. Every accommodation decision in Furano comes down to which of those three you wake up in. This guide compares only where to stay inside Furano; for the full spread of ski-Japan lodging guides, see our [where-to-stay hub for skiing in Japan](https://www.nipponstays.com/ski-japan-where-to-stay/).

## Shin Furano Prince Hotel — ski-in, ropeway, and nothing to walk to

Shin Furano Prince Hotel sits directly at the base of the Furano Ropeway in the Furano Zone, and booking sites list the same building under the English name New Furano Prince Hotel — one property, two names. Ski lockers open onto the snow, so there is no walk between boot room and lift. The hotel runs six restaurants, two bars, a 24-hour convenience store, a bakery and an indoor hot-spring bath, which matters because there is genuinely nothing else within walking distance — the nearest independent restaurant is a bus ride away in town. Rooms range from twin rooms that sleep up to three with a sofa bed to family rooms built for three or four guests, so a group of four does not need two rooms. The trade-off is the one most guests make knowingly: everything happens inside one building, and the 2025-26 season showed why timing matters here — the Furano Zone opened November 29 while the Kitanomine Zone across the resort didn't open until December 20, so an early-season booking effectively means the Prince hotel or nothing.

## Kitanomine — the lodges at the base

Kitanomine is a scatter of small hotels, pensions and self-catered lodges within a few minutes' walk of the Kitanomine Gondola, on the opposite side of the resort from the Prince hotel. [Nozo Hotel](https://www.trip.com/hotels/furano-hotel-detail-110029424/nozo-hotel/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=where-to-stay-in-furano&trip%5Fsub3=D19740737&ref=nipponstays.com) is about a 2-min walk from the lifts and runs its own guest shuttle in season; its official room list includes a 40 m² Family Room with Bunk Bed for up to four guests. [Hotel Naturwald Furano](https://www.trip.com/hotels/furano-hotel-detail-61934479/hotel-naturwald-furano/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=where-to-stay-in-furano&trip%5Fsub3=D19740436&ref=nipponstays.com) sits directly across from the lifts, about a 5-min walk away, with an indoor bath and a kids' play area. [Hotel Bell Hills](https://www.trip.com/hotels/furano-hotel-detail-7149869/furano-hotel-bell-hills/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=where-to-stay-in-furano&trip%5Fsub3=D19740387&ref=nipponstays.com) is further into Kitanomine's side streets, closer to Furano Shrine than to the lift line, and needs a short bus or taxi to reach the gondola. None of these lodges runs six restaurants under one roof, but Kitanomine itself has a handful of bars and small izakaya within walking distance — closer to a village than the Prince hotel's self-contained campus. Kitanomine also closes first: in 2025-26 the zone ran from 20 December to 22 March, about six weeks shorter than the Furano Zone's run to 6 May, so a late-March or April trip means basing on the Furano Zone side or riding the bus across. For families specifically, our [Furano hotels for families](https://www.nipponstays.com/furano-hotels-for-families/) guide narrows this list further by room layout.

## The town centre — the only base with a real evening

Furano's town centre, clustered around JR Furano Station, is the only one of the three bases where "what's for dinner" has more than one or two answers. [Furano Natulux Hotel](https://www.trip.com/hotels/furano-hotel-detail-705964/furano-natulux-hotel/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=where-to-stay-in-furano&trip%5Fsub3=D19553564&ref=nipponstays.com) is a 1-min walk from the station and runs its own restaurant; its own room list tops out at twin rooms built for two, so treat it as a couples' base rather than a confirmed four-person room — ask the hotel directly if you need to sleep four. [La Vista Furano Hills](https://www.trip.com/hotels/furano-hotel-detail-43094932/la-vista-furano-hills-natural-hot-spring/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=where-to-stay-in-furano&trip%5Fsub3=D19553571&ref=nipponstays.com) is about a 3-min walk from the same station, with 180 rooms and rental private baths; aggregator listings mention a quad room, but the capacity isn't published on the hotel's own site, so check directly before booking for four. [Hotel Munin Furano](https://www.trip.com/hotels/furano-hotel-detail-28757859/hotel-munin-furano/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=where-to-stay-in-furano&trip%5Fsub3=D19553578&ref=nipponstays.com) sits further out, close enough to the Furano Zone side of the resort to be a 10-min walk from the slopes rather than the station — a budget option if you don't need the town's restaurants on your doorstep. None of the town hotels put you on snow; every one needs the bus or a short taxi to either zone in the morning. For the broader question of basing a week in Furano versus nearby Asahikawa city, a roughly 60-minute bus ride away with more restaurants and a bigger airport, see our [Furano vs Asahikawa comparison](https://www.nipponstays.com/furano-vs-asahikawa-ski-city-week/) or our separate [where-to-stay-in-Asahikawa guide](https://www.nipponstays.com/where-to-stay-in-asahikawa/).

## What the Ikon Pass changes for 2026-27

Furano joined the Ikon Pass for the 2025-26 season, and Alterra Mountain Company's published 2026-27 Japan roster keeps it on the list alongside Niseko United, Arai Mountain Resort, Myoko Suginohara, Shiga Kogen, Zao Onsen and several others. The full Ikon Pass gives seven days at Furano with no blackout dates; the cheaper Ikon Base Pass gives five days, also with no blackout dates. That changes who is likely to be in the lift line: Ikon holders skiing a multi-resort Japan trip are now as likely to show up at Furano's gondolas as at Niseko's, which pushes more of them toward Kitanomine's walk-to-the-lift lodges rather than booking the Prince hotel purely because it was the only name they recognized. It doesn't change which base suits your evening plans — it just means Furano's lodges are no longer the quiet secret they were before the pass arrived. Check current terms directly on the [Ikon Pass Furano resort page](https://www.ikonpass.com/en/destinations/furano-ski-resort?ref=nipponstays.com).

## Getting around without a car: the Lavender Bus

Of the 7 properties compared in this guide, only one — Shin Furano Prince Hotel — sits directly on snow with no bus required at all. The other six rely on the Furano Tourism Association's public Lavender Bus network, which links Furano Station, the Kitanomine area and the Prince hotel for a flat ¥500 cash fare (checked September 2026). In the 2025-26 season the daytime Lavender Bus and its Furano Station–Prince Hotel limited service both ran daily from December 1 to March 31 with no listed exceptions. A separate Furano Evening Shuttle Bus added dining trips into town from December 19 to March 15 — but it didn't run on 31 December, 1-2 January, 31 January or 1 February, the New Year and mid-winter nights when a town-centre base most wants a ride home from dinner. Exact 2026-27 timetables are usually confirmed close to the season, so treat this as the 2025-26 pattern rather than a fixed date until the official [Furano Winter Bus Timetable](https://www.princehotels.co.jp/file.jsp?id=497963&ref=nipponstays.com) posts the new schedule. Prince Hotels' own resort page has the lift-side operating details for the [Furano Zone and Kitanomine Zone](https://www.princehotels.com/en/ski/furano/?ref=nipponstays.com).

## FAQ: Where to stay in Furano

### Is any hotel in Furano true ski-in, ski-out?

Only Shin Furano Prince Hotel (listed on booking sites as New Furano Prince Hotel) is ski-in/ski-out — its ski lockers open directly onto the Furano Zone base, next to the Furano Ropeway. Kitanomine's lodges are close but not attached: Nozo Hotel is about a 2-min walk to the gondola and Hotel Naturwald Furano is about a 5-min walk. No hotel in the town centre is walkable to either lift.

### How far apart are the two ski zones?

The Furano Zone and Kitanomine Zone are about a 7-minute bus ride apart at the base, per the official winter timetable. Skiers already on snow can cross between them on a connecting chair and run near the top of the mountain; anyone based at one zone's hotels who wants to reach the other at the bottom needs the Lavender Bus (¥500 flat fare) or a taxi.

### Does the Ikon Pass cover Furano for the 2026-27 season?

Yes. Furano has been on the Ikon Pass since the 2025-26 season and stays on Alterra's published 2026-27 Japan roster. The full Ikon Pass gives seven days at Furano with no blackout dates; Ikon Base gives five days, also with no blackout dates.

### When does Furano's ski season actually open?

In 2025-26, the Furano Zone opened November 29 and ran to May 6, while the Kitanomine Zone opened December 20 and closed March 22 — later to open and much earlier to close. For 2026-27, Prince Hotels' own [Japanese-language season page](https://www.princehotels.co.jp/ski/furano/winter/?ref=nipponstays.com) lists a planned opening of 28 November 2026 for the Furano Zone (checked September 2026); the closing date and the Kitanomine Zone's own 2026-27 dates were not yet published there. Our [Hokkaido ski resort opening-date comparison](https://www.nipponstays.com/when-do-hokkaido-ski-resorts-open/) tracks the confirmed dates as they land.

### How do I get from the airport to Furano?

Asahikawa Airport is the closer option, with winter shuttle buses running the roughly 60-minute route into Furano. New Chitose is farther but has more flight options; see our [Asahikawa vs New Chitose winter flights comparison](https://www.nipponstays.com/asahikawa-airport-vs-new-chitose-winter-flights/) for the trade-offs on timing and cost.
