**Takayama hotels for families: for four people in beds,** [**WAT Hotel & Spa Hida Takayama**](https://www.trip.com/hotels/takayama-hotel-detail-21850710/wat-hoteland-spa-hida-takayama/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=takayama-hotels-for-families&trip%5Fsub3=D19553739&ref=nipponstays.com) **prints five room types for up to four (four at "2 to 4 persons", the Luxury Suite at "1 to 4") on its official room page (7-min walk from Takayama Station, East Exit).** If you would rather sleep on tatami, [Oyado Koto no Yume](https://www.trip.com/hotels/takayama-hotel-detail-706477/oyado-koto-no-yume/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=takayama-hotels-for-families&trip%5Fsub3=D19553823&ref=nipponstays.com) (2-min walk from the East Exit) lists family rooms with two beds and two futons, although its room page does not print a head count. Both pages were checked in October 2026, and neither hotel publishes a rule for children who share a bed. If you have two young children and want to stay next to the station, [Washington Hotel Plaza](https://www.washingtonhotel.co.jp/whp/takayama/?ref=nipponstays.com) (1-min walk) does publish one, described below.

## Rooms that officially sleep four in Takayama

Five Takayama hotels are compared here, and the capacities below are copied from each hotel's official room page as printed, checked October 2026\. "Not printed" means the page names a family room but gives no head count.

Of the 5 Takayama hotels in this guide (official pages checked October 2026), 2 print a head count of four for at least one room type (WAT and Takayama Ouan), 4 are within a 7-min walk of Takayama Station (Washington 1, Koto no Yume 2, Ouan 5, WAT 7), and 2 publish a co-sleeping rule on their own site (Washington Hotel Plaza, and Honjin Hiranoya for its Kofukan building, not for Kachoan rooms).

The Koto no Yume bathroom detail matters for families. "Ajisai no Ma" has a shower only, with no bathtub, as the hotel states on its [official room page](https://www.kotoyume.com/room.php?ref=nipponstays.com); "Tsutsuji no Ma" is not marked shower-only.

## Beds or futons: what "sleeps four" means

A Japanese room "for four" can mean four beds, two beds plus futons, or four futons, and the difference decides how much floor space is left. At WAT the Triple has three beds, so four people means one more person on top of three beds and the page does not say how the fourth sleeps; the two-bed rooms (Superior Twin, Hollywood, Deluxe Hollywood, Luxury Suite) are printed as 2 to 4 persons, or 1 to 4 for the suite, without describing the extra bedding.

At Koto no Yume the family rooms are described as tatami with "two beds and two futon sets", which is a sleeping set-up for four, but the hotel does not print "4 persons" on that page. Takayama Ouan prints 2 to 4 persons for a 30 m² room, with a Japanese-style bed plus a futon in the layout. Do not read any of these as "four beds". For a family of five or more, see [two rooms or one for a family of five](https://www.nipponstays.com/two-rooms-or-one-family-of-five-japan/).

## Co-sleeping and small children

Two of the five hotels publish a co-sleeping rule. Washington Hotel Plaza says children of elementary-school age or younger sleep free with parents, one child per bed you book (a single allows 1 child, a twin allows 2), and that the co-sleeping child's breakfast is ordered at the front desk (official page, checked October 2026). That makes a twin room workable for two adults and two young children.

The second is Honjin Hiranoya, but its terms belong to the baby-welcome plan at Honjin Hiranoya Kofukan, the sister inn of Kachoan: up to 2 co-sleeping toddlers who need no futon and no meal, free of charge. The same page links a separate baby plan for Kachoan but does not print its co-sleeping terms, so ask Kachoan directly (age limit, children per bed, futon or fee). The page also says children who need neither meals nor bedding are charged a facility fee of ¥2,200 per child, tax included, and that baby food, formula and diapers are not provided, although staff will warm baby food on request (checked October 2026).

WAT, Koto no Yume and Takayama Ouan do not publish a co-sleeping rule on the pages checked. That does not mean it is not allowed. Ask the hotel before booking: up to what age a child counts as co-sleeping, how many children can share one bed, and whether a futon or an extra charge is added.

## Dinner, breakfast and kids' meals

Child meal terms are published by only one of the five hotels. On the Honjin Hiranoya page, the baby-welcome plan at the Kofukan sister inn includes dinner in the room and breakfast in a private dining room, with children's tableware lent out (spoon, fork, chopsticks, cup, straw, chair). Free loans also include a bouncer, picture books, a stroller and a baby bed while stocks last.

For the other four hotels, children's meal portions and prices are not printed on the pages checked, so ask when booking. For ryokan where dinner is included, see [family hotels in Japan with dinner included](https://www.nipponstays.com/japan-family-hotels-dinner-included/).

## Family baths in Takayama

Two hotels in this guide print free bookable family baths, and one charges. WAT lists four open-air family baths using hot-spring water, free of charge, open 15:00 to 25:00 and 06:00 to 12:00, used on a first-come basis when empty. The hotel adds that the showers are not available in winter because of freezing (official spa page, October 2026).

Koto no Yume's bookable bath "Hoshi no Yu" costs ¥3,300 for 40 minutes, takes 1 to 3 people, and groups of four or more must book two slots. The hotel states that this bath is not hot spring water. Takayama Ouan lists three free private baths on its facilities page, without saying whether they use the spring. For more on bathing with children, see [onsen with kids and family baths in Japan](https://www.nipponstays.com/onsen-with-kids-japan-family-bath/).

## Snow, strollers and short walks

Takayama's deepest-snow-cover normal is 28 cm in December, 44 cm in January and 45 cm in February (Japan Meteorological Agency, 1991-2020 normals), so walking distance from the station matters with luggage and small children. Washington Hotel Plaza at 1 minute, Koto no Yume at 2 minutes and Takayama Ouan at 5 minutes are the shortest walks in this guide, while Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan at 10 minutes by foot is also 3 minutes by car, according to its access page.

Month-by-month snow, footwear and bus delays are covered in [does it snow in Takayama in winter](https://www.nipponstays.com/does-it-snow-in-takayama-winter/).
