Nabana no Sato illumination where to stay comes down to one question: do you want to watch until the lights go dark, or head back to Nagoya the same night? If it's the former, base at Nagashima Onsen itself — hotels such as [Hotel Hanamizuki](https://www.trip.com/hotels/kuwana-hotel-detail-5623403/hotel-hanamizuki/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=nabana-no-sato-illumination-where-to-stay&trip%5Fsub3=D19740408&ref=nipponstays.com) run a free guest shuttle to the venue on their own fixed schedule — no advance booking; you sign up at check-in and confirm the last return run then. Staying in Nagoya instead and coming back the same night also works, but only if you use the right bus: the direct highway bus to Nagoya's Meitetsu Bus Center makes its last run at 21:05 every night regardless of closing time, so on any evening you stay past dusk, that bus is already gone. The route that actually tracks closing time is the local bus to Kintetsu Nagashima Station, followed by the train. Kuwana is the budget middle ground — a hotel like [Sanco Inn Kuwana Ekimae](https://www.trip.com/hotels/kuwana-hotel-detail-9625732/sanco-inn-kuwana-ekimae/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=nabana-no-sato-illumination-where-to-stay&trip%5Fsub3=D19740765&ref=nipponstays.com), two minutes from Kuwana Station, puts you one short train ride from that same bus stop for Nabana no Sato.

## The decision is a timetable, not a preference

Nabana no Sato does not close at the same hour every night. Most nights the gates shut at 21:00, but the calendar also sets later closings — up to 22:00 on some regular-season dates, and to 22:00 (December 23) or 23:00 (December 24-25) on the three nights of extended Christmas opening, when the park runs a 15:00 start instead of its usual 10:00\. The operator's own bus timetable is built around this: departures are marked as running "only on days the park stays open until 22:00" or "until 23:00," which is a direct signal of how late a given night runs.

Three numbers matter, and one of them comes with a caveat. The last direct highway bus to Nagoya's Meitetsu Bus Center departs a fixed 21:05, every night, regardless of closing time — the same last departure holds across the weekday, Saturday, and Sunday/holiday [timetables](https://www.sanco.co.jp/krs/dep%5Ftime%5Ftable.php?week=4&dep=1151&arr=1041&ref=nipponstays.com) alike. The last local bus to Kintetsu Nagashima Station extends with the day: in the 2025-26 timetable — not yet replaced for 2026-27 at our check — it ran 21:10 on a 21:00 closing, pushed to 22:00 or 23:00 on later nights. The last Kintetsu train from Nagashima toward Nagoya runs close to midnight. The highway bus is the one that fails you: even on a plain 21:00 closing, 21:05 leaves no time to walk from gate to stop. The local-bus-plus-train route is the one built to match closing time — see "Basing in Nagoya," below.

## Where you can sleep, by how you'll get there

## Staying at Nagashima Onsen — you can stay until closing

Nagashima Onsen is the resort district Nabana no Sato itself sits inside, alongside Nagashima Spa Land and an outlet mall. During the illumination season, the resort's three official hotels — Hotel Hanamizuki, Garden Hotel Olive, and Hotel Nagashima — each run a free guest shuttle on a fixed schedule of their own — no advance booking; sign up at the front desk when you check in, and ask for the last return run then. Hanamizuki sits closest to the venue, and its drop-off point is the nearest of the three to the illumination entrance.

Room type varies more than the shared shuttle does. Hanamizuki sleeps up to six in its main building (four in the annex), some rooms with an in-room hot-spring bath. Olive is Japanese-style tatami sleeping up to five, bathing at shared hot-spring baths. Hotel Nagashima is the Western-style option — twin plus sofa bed, sleeping two to three, some with a private bath. None of the three is walkable from a station; every guest arrives by shuttle or taxi from Kintetsu Nagashima Station.

## Kuwana as the cheap middle

Kuwana is a proper train city rather than a resort — it has its own JR and Kintetsu station, and business hotels priced well under the resort's official properties. Sanco Inn Kuwana Ekimae, a two-minute walk from the station's east exit, is the most convenient of them: it puts you one five-minute local train ride from Kintetsu Nagashima Station, where the direct illumination bus departs. ⚠ Check your dates first: the hotel's own site says it closes for interior refurbishment from 4 January to 16 February 2027 — the middle of the illumination season (notice dated July 2026, checked September 2026).

The catch is that the bus from Kuwana Station itself does not run in winter. Nagashima Onsen's own access pages route Kuwana-based visitors through Kintetsu Nagashima Station instead — the direct Kuwana Station bus is a warm-season service, and the illumination-season timetable only lists the Nagashima Station route. From Kuwana, the route is always train first, bus second, never a direct bus from the station itself. Budget the transfer into your evening: about five minutes to Kintetsu Nagashima Station by train, then the roughly ten-minute bus to the venue, each way.

## Basing in Nagoya and going back the same night

A same-night round trip from Nagoya works, but only via the train route, not the highway bus. The direct highway bus is the simplest option on paper — about 30 minutes, ¥1,200 one-way from the venue to the Meitetsu Bus Center — but its fixed 21:05 last departure (see above) rules it out for anyone staying past dusk. The reliable path is the local bus to Kintetsu Nagashima Station — timed to closing, per the [2025-26 timetable](https://www.nagashima-onsen.co.jp/nabana/illumination/info/bus%5Fkintetsu%5Fnagahsimaeki%5Fnabana.html?ref=nipponstays.com) above — followed by a Kintetsu train toward Nagoya that keeps running close to midnight. It's one more change than the highway bus, but it's the route that actually gets you home. If you're deciding between Nagoya's two main bases, our [Nagoya Station vs. Sakae guide](https://www.nipponstays.com/nagoya-station-vs-sakae-where-to-stay/) covers which side suits a later return; for the full set of options, see our [Nagoya area guide](https://www.nipponstays.com/where-to-stay-in-nagoya/).

Nagoya has another well-known night-time day trip in the other direction: [Kōrankei's autumn light-up](https://www.nipponstays.com/korankei-from-nagoya-day-trip-or-overnight/) asks the same day-trip-or-stay question, but in November rather than winter — a different season with its own last-train numbers, not a substitute for this one.

## Tickets, admission and what the price includes

Nabana no Sato's admission (入村料) covers entry to the illumination and the garden grounds; it is not a ride ticket or a meal plan. For the 2026-27 season, the official price tiers are:

- October 17 - November 20: ¥2,500 bought in advance at a convenience store, ¥2,700 at the gate
- November 21 - December 22: ¥3,000 in advance, ¥3,200 at the gate
- December 23-25 (extended Christmas hours): ¥5,000 for a dated advance ticket, ¥5,500 same-day — advance booking is required for these three days, so a same-day ticket is not guaranteed
- December 26 - February 28: ¥3,000 in advance, ¥3,200 at the gate
- March 1 - May 31: ¥2,500, the same price in advance or at the gate

Children below elementary-school age are admitted free at every tier. The advance-purchase, convenience-store ticket is consistently ¥200-¥500 cheaper than paying at the gate on every date outside the flat spring rate. The park also closes for two days in early January for maintenance — January 7-8 in the calendar we could confirm — so check the official calendar before booking that close to New Year. See the full day-by-day calendar and current fees on the [official Nabana no Sato illumination fee page](https://www.nagashima-onsen.co.jp/nabana/illumination/fee/index.html?ref=nipponstays.com).

This guide covers Nabana no Sato specifically. For a different overnight-or-day-trip decision built the same way, our [Ashikaga Flower Fantasy guide](https://www.nipponstays.com/ashikaga-illumination-day-trip-or-overnight/) runs the same last-train logic for a different venue.

## How many of the hotels below skip the public bus entirely

Of the five hotels compared in this guide, three — Hotel Hanamizuki, Garden Hotel Olive, and Hotel Nagashima — sit inside the Nagashima Onsen resort and reach the venue on their own free shuttle rather than a public bus, while the other two, New Heartpia Onsen Hotel Nagashima and Sanco Inn Kuwana Ekimae, connect to the venue by a hotel shuttle plus taxi or a public train-and-bus combination (checked September 2026).

## FAQ: Nabana no Sato illumination

### What time does Nabana no Sato close?

Most nights it's 21:00\. Some regular-season dates extend to 22:00, and the three Christmas-period nights (December 23-25) run a 15:00 start with a 22:00 or 23:00 close. Check the official calendar for your exact date — the bus and train times below both depend on which closing hour applies.

### How do I get back to Nagoya after the lights go out?

Take the local bus to Kintetsu Nagashima Station, then the train — not the direct highway bus. The highway bus's last departure from the venue is a fixed 21:05 every night, so it leaves before most visitors are ready to go regardless of closing time. The local bus tracks the day's actual closing — 21:10, 22:00, or 23:00 per the 2025-26 timetable, confirm the current one before relying on it — and Kintetsu trains toward Nagoya continue with a direct service close to midnight.

### How much is admission to Nabana no Sato?

For the 2026-27 season, admission runs ¥2,500 in the shoulder periods (mid-October to late November, and March to May) and ¥3,000-¥3,200 from late November through February, with a separate ¥5,000-¥5,500 tier and mandatory advance booking on December 23-25\. Buying the advance ticket at a convenience store is cheaper than paying at the gate on every tier except the flat spring rate.

### Can I get there without a car from Nagoya?

Yes. Either ride the Kintetsu line from Kintetsu Nagoya Station to Kintetsu Nagashima Station and transfer to the 10-minute direct bus, or take the direct highway bus from the Meitetsu Bus Center — both run throughout the illumination season, though the highway bus's fixed 21:05 last return departure makes the Kintetsu-line route the only one that works if you plan to stay past dusk.
