# Kiroro to Rusutsu Transfer: How to Do It (2026-27)

There is no direct winter bus or train for a Kiroro to Rusutsu transfer. Every public-transport route requires at least one transfer, and the two most useful shuttle services — the Kiroro Ski Bus and the Sapporo–Rusutsu shuttle (Rusutsu-Go) — do not connect on the same day, so a same-day public-transit transfer is not realistic. A private transfer or self-drive covers the roughly 70 km in about 1.5–2 hours in clear winter conditions (roughly ¥25,000–¥40,000, quoted on request, depending on operator and group size); via-Sapporo public transport plus an overnight typically runs a half-day-to-full-day and costs far less. The answer changes if you are willing to sleep in Sapporo between legs, which is the option most travellers end up taking. ## Is there a direct service?

No operator runs a scheduled bus, train, or combined ski-liner directly between Kiroro and Rusutsu for winter 2026-27, and none did for winter 2025-26 either. Hokkaido Resort Liner (operated by Hokkaido Access Network) connects New Chitose Airport with Niseko and Rusutsu, and a separate Access Network service connects Niseko with Kiroro, but no single service links Kiroro and Rusutsu end to end. If you see a route on a map app that looks continuous, it is stitching together legs that require a change and a wait, not a through service (checked August 2026). Of the four ways to cover this pair, none is a single scheduled through service, and the two seasonal ski buses that come closest run one round trip a day each (checked August 2026).

## The via-Sapporo route, leg by leg

Going via Sapporo means two separate shuttle bookings, and last winter's timetables did not line up for a same-day transfer. The Kiroro Ski Bus (Access Network) ran Sapporo–Kiroro daily from 13 December 2025 to 5 April 2026, one round trip a day — morning departure from Sapporo, afternoon return — for a one-way adult fare of ¥2,500\. The Sapporo–Rusutsu shuttle (Rusutsu-Go, free, reservation required by 3:00pm the previous day) ran 29 November 2025 to 31 March 2026, with a single daily departure from Sapporo at 8:00am arriving Rusutsu 10:00–10:20am, and a return leaving Rusutsu 4:40–5:00pm arriving Sapporo around 7:00pm. Put those two schedules together and the problem is obvious: the Kiroro Ski Bus doesn't head back toward Sapporo until the afternoon, so there is no way to be in Sapporo in time to catch Rusutsu-Go's single 8:00am departure on the same day you've been at Kiroro. The Rusutsu side of this journey is already fixed for 2026-27 — Hokkaido Access Network runs New Chitose and Sapporo to Rusutsu daily from early December to the end of March at ¥5,500 for an adult one way. It is the Kiroro side that is still pending: the operator listed its Kiroro courses as coming, with release due around September (Hokkaido Access Network's own 2026-27 timetable, checked August 2026). If the operators keep the same shape as last season (one round trip per resort per day), the mismatch in timings will repeat.

Both operators require online reservation, but the deadlines differ: the Kiroro Ski Bus cuts off at 18:00 the day before, while Rusutsu-Go cuts off earlier, at 15:00 the day before. Both are seasonal services that stop running outside their published windows — check the current dates before you build an itinerary around either one.

## Via-Otaru and via-Niseko alternatives

Access Network also runs a paid Otaru–Kiroro shuttle (adult ¥2,000 one-way, daily, 1 December 2025 – 19 April 2026 for the equivalent 2025-26 season), and its 2025-26 service list separately carries a "\[Free Shuttle Bus\] Otaru ↔ Kiroro." Either could in theory connect to a Sapporo-bound JR train from Otaru and on to Rusutsu-Go, but the operator's public detail page only lays out the season structure (First: 1-12 Dec; Top: 13 Dec-22 Mar; Spring: 23 Mar-19 Apr) rather than exact departure times for either shuttle, so this connection cannot be verified as workable rather than merely theoretical. Treat it as unconfirmed rather than a recommended route.

A separate service, Rusutsu's Niseko shuttle ("Rusutsu Powder Day Trip"), links Niseko and Rusutsu (last season 3 January–28 February 2026, ¥9,000 round trip, 8:30am out / 4:30pm back), and Access Network runs a Niseko–Kiroro round trip. Both of these are structured as same-day round-trip day tours, not one-way transfers: the Niseko–Rusutsu service explicitly does not allow luggage to be stored on the bus between the outbound and return legs, which rules it out for anyone actually relocating between resorts with ski bags and suitcases rather than day-tripping. It's useful only if you are already staying in Niseko and want a one-day visit to the other resort.

## Private transfer and taxi

Charter transfer companies operating in the area (e.g. Wheels Transfers Hokkaido) list Kiroro–Rusutsu as a quote-on-request route rather than a fixed fare on their published price list, since it falls outside their standard hub-to-hub pairs — expect to submit pickup/drop-off details and passenger/luggage counts and receive a quote back rather than an instant online price. MK Taxi Sapporo, which we've verified for the New Chitose–Kiroro leg, only accepts bookings where pickup or drop-off is within Sapporo City itself, so it does not cover a direct Kiroro–Rusutsu run — it's an option only if you're routing through Sapporo anyway. Vehicles suited to ski luggage (minivan-class or larger) typically need to be requested specifically since a standard sedan taxi won't fit two sets of ski bags and suitcases for a family of four. ## Driving it yourself

The distance is roughly 70 km and the drive takes about 1.5 hours on a clear, dry road — but that is the map-app estimate, not a verified winter figure specific to this pair, so treat it as a floor rather than a plan. The most direct road route runs via Route 393 through Akaigawa village and Kutchan, crossing Kenashi Pass (毛無峠), a mountain-pass section that gets its own winter safety advisories from the local development bureau; an alternative uses the Sasson Expressway from Sapporo Kita IC to Asari IC before rejoining Route 393\. Both options involve at least one pass or winding mountain section, so budget meaningfully more time than the dry-road estimate whenever snow is falling or the road is freshly plowed. ## Your skis on this route

Whichever bus you take on this route carries skis and snowboards as normal checked items in the luggage hold at no extra charge, based on the operators' published terms; the exception is the Niseko–Rusutsu day-trip shuttle, which is carry-on only and explicitly excludes stored luggage between legs. ## When to book this one

Because this route runs through two separately-booked shuttles rather than one operator, book each leg as soon as your dates are fixed rather than waiting to bundle them — a seat on one leg does not hold a seat on the other, and the two deadlines aren't the same: 18:00 the day before for the Kiroro Ski Bus, 15:00 the day before for Rusutsu-Go. ## Is it worth doing as a day move, or should you sleep in Sapporo?

Given that the two public shuttles don't connect on the same day, a same-day Kiroro-to-Rusutsu transfer by public transport isn't a realistic option — attempting it burns a travel day that produces no skiing at either end. The practical shapes are: (1) drive or charter it directly in half a day, keeping the rest of the day free, or (2) ride the Kiroro Ski Bus into Sapporo in the afternoon, sleep there, and catch the 8:00am Rusutsu-Go the next morning — which turns a transfer into a deliberate one-night Sapporo stop rather than a wasted day. For travellers without a car, the overnight-in-Sapporo shape is usually the better use of time than trying to force a same-day connection that the timetables don't support.
