Huis Ten Bosch's countdown fireworks don't finish until around 0:10am, and the regular last train out of JR Huis Ten Bosch Station is long gone by then — 22:51 toward Sasebo (the last through-service; a later 23:54 departure only reaches Hayoki, one stop short) and 22:16 toward Nagasaki (JR Kyushu station timetable, checked September 2026). The most reliable Huis Ten Bosch New Year countdown hotel pick is one of the resort's own hotels inside the park, such as [Hotel Europe](https://www.trip.com/hotels/sasebo-hotel-detail-704051/hotel-europe-huis-ten-bosch/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=huis-ten-bosch-countdown-where-to-stay&trip%5Fsub3=D20138456&ref=nipponstays.com), since no train is needed at all. Basing yourself in Nagasaki city instead — say, at [Hotel New Nagasaki](https://www.trip.com/hotels/nagasaki-hotel-detail-704182/hotel-new-nagasaki/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=huis-ten-bosch-countdown-where-to-stay&trip%5Fsub3=D19123743&ref=nipponstays.com) near the station — only gets you home the same night if JR Kyushu runs its holiday-only "Countdown" extra trains again; there's no ordinary late train that covers the gap.

## Inside the park or in Nagasaki: the trade-off

These two options answer different questions, and the table below is built around the one that actually decides it for most families: what happens to you after the fireworks end.

| Option | Fireworks at midnight? | Next-day park pass | Travel after the show | Sleeps four? |
| ----------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Stay inside the park | Yes — step outside your room or book a viewing restaurant seat | Included: the New Year plan (Dec 30, 2026–Jan 2, 2027) hands out a free "next-day passport" for each remaining night at check-in | None needed — you're already there | Yes in one room at hotels with a four-person category (confirm it's offered under the New Year plan when you book) |
| Stay in Nagasaki city instead | Yes, but you leave the park afterward | Not included — buy a park passport separately if you're going back the next day | Only on a special late-night "Countdown" extra train JR Kyushu adds for the occasion (confirmed for the 2025–26 season; 2026–27 timetable not yet published) | Usually two rooms — most Nagasaki Station hotels cap at two or three guests per room; ask specifically about Japanese-style rooms if you need one room for four |

## The last train problem on Dec 31

On an ordinary night, Huis Ten Bosch Station's last trains run early enough that this never comes up: 22:51 toward Sasebo (with a 23:54 departure that only reaches Hayoki, not Sasebo itself) and 22:16 toward the Isahaya/Nagasaki direction. On New Year's Eve, the park itself stays open past those times — in the most recently completed season the gates stayed open until 2:00am with last entry at 23:00, and the countdown fireworks launched at 0:00 and ran about ten minutes. That means anyone relying on the timetable above is stranded well before the show even starts, let alone after it ends. A ticket you'd normally treat as routine simply doesn't exist that night.

## Official park hotels and the New Year plan

Huis Ten Bosch's five directly-run hotels — Hotel Europe, Hotel Amsterdam, Hotel Den Haag, Forest Villa and Hotel Rotterdam — take bookings for a New Year plan covering December 30, 2026 through January 2, 2027, per the resort's own site. The park's passport policy for the plan is specific: the first day's entry (a 1-Day or After-3pm passport) is bought separately, and from the following morning the hotel front desk hands out a free "next-day passport" for each remaining night of the stay. Two more official hotels sit just outside the gate but aren't part of this particular package — Hotel Okura JR Huis Ten Bosch, a 2-minute walk from the entrance, and Hotel Nikko Huis Ten Bosch, which has its own re-entry gate into the park. Either works if you'd rather buy passports on your own terms than take the bundled plan.

## Sleeping in Nagasaki instead

If you're combining the fireworks with a day or two of Nagasaki sightseeing, basing at the station makes more sense than doubling back to the park. [Hotel New Nagasaki](https://www.trip.com/hotels/nagasaki-hotel-detail-704182/hotel-new-nagasaki/?Allianceid=9711325&SID=327049682&trip%5Fsub1=huis-ten-bosch-countdown-where-to-stay&trip%5Fsub3=D19123743&ref=nipponstays.com), about a 5-minute walk from the station, is the one pick among the options below whose own room chart lists Japanese-style (washitsu) and Japanese-Western (washitsu-yōshitsu) rooms — the configuration Nagasaki hotels typically use to sleep more than two people in one room, though the exact guest cap wasn't published on the site and is worth confirming at booking. The catch is getting there the same night: a normal-day trip from Nagasaki Station to Huis Ten Bosch runs about 90 minutes on the direct Seaside Liner rapid service, and after a midnight show your only way back is whatever late-night train JR Kyushu schedules for the occasion — see below. For where to stay if you're not chasing the fireworks specifically, our [general guide to where to stay in Nagasaki](https://www.nipponstays.com/where-to-stay-in-nagasaki/) and [hotels near Nagasaki Station](https://www.nipponstays.com/hotels-near-nagasaki-station/) cover the rest of the city's options, and [how to get to Nagasaki](https://www.nipponstays.com/how-to-get-to-nagasaki/) has the wider transport picture beyond this one route.

## What last year's countdown-night trains actually ran

JR Kyushu doesn't leave the last-train problem unsolved — it adds a set of holiday-only extra trains timed to the fireworks, but only announces them a few weeks ahead, so they aren't on the year-round timetable you'd normally check. For the December 31, 2025 show, [JR Kyushu's own announcement](https://www.jrkyushu.co.jp/byarea/nagasaki/info/%5F%5FicsFiles/afieldfile/2025/12/05/2025%5FHuis%5FTen%5FBosch%5FCountdown%5FFireworks%5FSpecial%5FTrain.pdf?ref=nipponstays.com), published December 5, 2025, listed three departures from Huis Ten Bosch Station toward Sasebo (0:30, 1:19 and 2:04, each arriving about 19 minutes later), two toward Nagasaki (0:56 and 1:44, arriving roughly 90 minutes later at 2:28 and 3:16), and three limited-express departures toward Hakata (0:50, 1:25 and 2:10). The earliest of the eight left Huis Ten Bosch at 0:30am, twenty minutes after the fireworks' advertised 0:10am end time. As of this writing (checked September 2026), JR Kyushu hasn't yet published the equivalent 2026–27 schedule — it typically comes out in early December — so treat last year's departure times as the pattern to expect, not a confirmed booking, and check JR Kyushu's site again closer to the date.

## FAQ: Huis Ten Bosch Countdown

### Is there a train back to Nagasaki or Sasebo right after the countdown fireworks?

Only on JR Kyushu's holiday-only "Countdown" extra trains, not the regular timetable. For the 2025–26 season these ran three departures toward Sasebo (0:30, 1:19 and 2:04) and two toward Nagasaki (0:56 and 1:44, arriving about 90 minutes later). The 2026–27 schedule hadn't been published as of September 2026 — JR Kyushu typically announces it in early December.

### What time do the countdown fireworks start, and how many shells?

In the most recently completed season, the show launched at 0:00 and ran about ten minutes, with roughly 8,000 shells. The park extended its hours to 2:00am that night, with last entry at 23:00\. The 2026–27 count and exact timing hadn't been confirmed as of this writing.

### Does the in-park New Year hotel plan include park admission?

Partly. You buy the first day's passport separately, then the hotel front desk gives you a free "next-day passport" for each remaining night of your stay — so a Dec 30 check-in needs a purchased passport for Dec 30, with Dec 31 and Jan 1 covered automatically if you're staying through Jan 2.

### Can a family of four fit in one room?

Only reliably inside the park: Hotel Europe lists a roughly 72 m² Standard Four room built for four guests (confirm it's included in the New Year plan when you book). On the Nagasaki side, most station hotels cap at two or three per room — Hotel New Nagasaki's Japanese-style rooms are the closest match, but a family of four elsewhere on the list should plan on two connecting rooms.
